Jazz Ensemble for Musicians aged 12 – 17

Music Generation Wicklow is delighted to partner with Mermaid Arts Centre in their second year of creating new Jazz Ensembles for young musicians. The ensemble will meet for nine weeks playing Jazz under the guidance of Jazz musician Matthew Jacobson and Music Generation Wicklow musician/tutor Paula McCarthy. We are seeking young musicians aged between 12 to under 18 years who are interested in playing and learning Jazz and improvisation. An ability to read music is an advantage. Drum kit and digital piano provided on site.

Matthew Jacobson is an Irish drummer, improviser, composer, educator and producer. As well as leading his own groups Insufficient Funs and ReDiviDeR, he regularly tours, performs and records with leading improvisers all around the world. He is also co-director of independent Irish record label Diatribe, a jazz lecturer at Dublin City University and has received numerous awards and scholarships from insHtuHons including Arts of Council of Ireland, Music Network, Fulbright Scholar Award, Berklee College of Music and Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Councty Council.
Paula McCarthy is a multi-instrumentalist who plays and teaches clarinet, saxophone, recorder and piano. She has experience working in many diverse music related areas – church music, concert bands, orchestras, rock bands, radio production, recording and music composition/arranging and is a regular presenter of ‘Classic Sunday’ on Dublin South FM. With over 20 years teaching and performing experience, Paula enjoys working with young students and is delighted to be part of the Music Generation team.
