In a remote Turkish coastal village on the Black Sea, five young sisters have their basic freedoms unjustly stripped from them under the guardianship of their grandmother and uncle after a neighbour witnesses the girls innocently playing on the beach. The orphaned sisters' are locked up for fear that they have tarnished their virtue and a tyrannical regime of physical and emotional imprisonment is placed on them. A powerful and understated feminist drama which sensitively observes its characters as normal, emancipated young modern women suffering from repression.
