Is there a story behind certain dances? Caffe Letterario GattaNera will host an evening celebrating the unique Folk Music and Dances from South of Italy, like Pizzica, Tammurriate and Neapolitan Villanelle .
In particular Pizzica (means bite), a frenetic dance, goes back many centuries in Puglia. The story behind the dance is that is was said to be a cure for spider bites, tarantula).
Tammurriata from Campania, has very old origins. It is a rural dance, tied to fertility, with agricultural work evoked in the steps.
