Bloomsday Artist Talk with Margaret Fitzgibbon

Join us for an informal conversation with our current exhibiting artist Margaret Fitzgibbon to celebrate Bloomsday. Fitzgibbon's works in mixed media reference surrealists including Dora Maar and Meret Oppenheim, each masters of the ‘avant-garde of modernism’ that emerged in Paris in the 20th Century (at the same time James Joyce was writing the definitive modernist novel).

By fusing narrative modes including poetry, text, image and collage she recalibrates the tensions between reality and fantasy unsettling designations of gender and identity, art and craft.

Fitzgibbon’s subject matter defies simple categorisations but a layering of emotional responses to the complicated relationship she has a range of topics, for example the natural world, autobiography, memory, hidden histories and feminism.
