Jane Austen Wrecked My Life
Director: Laura Piani
Starring: Camille Rutherford, Pablo Pauly, Charlie Anson, Annabelle Lengronne
Agathe loves her job in Shakespeare & Co bookshop. But she dreams of finally finishing one of the many stories she starts writing and finding a great romance like the ones in the novels of her favourite author, Jane Austen. When an unexpected invitation to the Jane Austen Writers' Residency in England lands in her lap, Agathe is in for an eye-opening and life-changing experience. Encouraged by her eccentric co-residents to explore her true self, Agathe realises it’s time to take control. Jane Austen Wrecked My Life is a breezy, smart exploration of competing modern desires for both connection and escapism, while also delving into how past heartbreaks can cause us to live like supporting characters in our own lives.
‘... charming in an immediate, earthy way... modern feel and breezy comedic notes’
Boyd van Hoeij , Screen International
‘Laura Piani’s splendid debut balances reality with the effervescent charm of vintage swooners.. a lighthearted farce... the film is at once old - fashioned and refreshingly, realistically up to date in its take’
Peter Debruge, Variety
‘Often funny, aiming for simplicity, and openly good - natured, Jane Austen Wrecked My Life is an unpretentious yet well - executed French variation on the Working Title classics (such as Notting Hill ), boasting Woody - Allen - style comic content’
Fabien Lemercier, Cineuropa
