North Circular
The evening will start with cellist, Kevin Murphy playing a short overture, then the screening of North Circular and a Q&A will follow the film with director, Luke McManus in discussion with Mark O'Brien of the Abbey Theatre and IFTA winning director Hannah Quinn.
North Circular is a documentary musical that travels the length of Dublin's North Circular Road, from the Phoenix Park to Dublin Port, exploring the history, music and streetscapes of a street that links some of the country's most beloved and infamous places.Told in black and white 4:3 Academy ratio, the film evokes many narratives from thehistory of the city and nation, from colonialism, to mental health, to the struggle for women’s liberation while also engaging with urgent issues of today, including the battle to save the legendary Cobblestone Pub, centre of Dublin’s recent folk revival, from destruction at the hands of cynical property developers. The film also includes musical performances from artists local to the North Circular, including John Francis Flynn, Séan Ó Túama, Eoghan O' Ceannabháin,Ian Lynch & Gemma Dunleavy.

MARK O'BRIEN (Panellist)
From Bray, Co Wicklow, Mark studied at University College Dublin,agraduating with a Master’s degree in English Literature. He has had over 25 years’ experience in the theatre and wider culture sectors, as a leader, facilitator, actor, sound designer, administrator, and theatre director. He has also led, directed, and developed work in the youth theatre sector, and with Team Educational Theatre Company. Mark was previously Director of axis arts centre Ballymun.
HANNAH QUINN (Panellist)
Hannah Quinn is from Bray, Co. Wicklow. She is a film & tv director who r won the IFTA Director Drama award 2022 for Vikings:Valhalla. Hannah previously directed 2nd Unit of Disenchanted (Disney), Vikings:Valhalla (S1) for Netflix/MGM, Fate – The Winx Saga (Netflix), The Stranger (Netflix), Blood (VMTV), Eastenders (BBC1), Red Rock (TV3) and short films Smithy & Dickie and My Bonnie. Before directing, Hannah worked as an Assistant Director for over two decades. She’s also a pilot.
KEVIN MURPHY (Cellist)
Kevin Murphy, composer of the incidental music for North Circular is a celebrated cellist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and songwriter from Cork, who now lives just off the North Circular Road in Dublin. As well as his own projects: Seti The First, Blind Stitch and Slow Moving Clouds, he has also featured as a guest musician with many Irish and international artists such as The National, bon iver, Jenny Lewis, Lisa Hannigan, Rick Danko, Gavin Friday, Seamus Fogarty, Adrian Crowley and Dave Gahan.
