Masako Carey Presents

Ohanashi お話し - An Evening of Japanese Folktales

“Ohanashi お話し” means “Story” in Japanese, and in this premiere for YARN, Masako Carey invites her listeners to enter another world and explore Japanese culture.

Japanese-born Storyteller Masako Carey has lived in rural Co Antrim for the past 20 years. Masako tells stories in schools, libraries and community venues with people of all ages and abilities.

Recently she was a featured storyteller at Belfast Mela, and at the Cape Clear International Storytelling Festival.

During the pandemic the demand for Masako’s online storytelling spread worldwide to audiences in India, Singapore, the United States and beyond.

Thanks to the support of the National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Masako created this new performance which provides a fresh and innovative approach to ancient folktales, for modern audiences.

We are thrilled to welcome her to Mermaid Arts Centre and to Yarn.
