When teenager Priscilla Beaulieu meets rock-and-roll star Elvis Presley at a party on a German army base in 1959, the two form a deep connection. As their long courtship grows into a turbulent marriage, Priscilla - portrayed with extraordinary poise and strength by Cailee Spaeny - experiences isolation and betrayal by Elvis (Jacob Elordi) as the pressures of fame cause his behaviour to become more erratic.

Based on the memoir Elvis and Me, Priscilla is a portrait of the whirlwind romance and relationship of Priscilla and Elvis Presley. Sofia Coppola brings her customary visual style to bear on this humanistic portrait of a young woman growing inside a gilded cage.

‘Melancholy young women searching for escape are one of Coppola’s favorite subjects, and Priscilla may be her most haunting endeavor thus far.’

Shirley Li, the Atlantic

‘Coppola’s film is fierce in its subtlety, relying on Spaeny’s breathtaking performance and the inherent tragedy of Priscilla’s story to deliver a film that’s equal parts beautiful and heartbreaking.’

Lauren Coates, AV Club

‘Taken from Priscilla’s own memoir, the film is cunning in its teasing out of her late husband’s damaging insecurities. But, as often with this director, it is the luscious textures that most engage.’
