Púca in the Machine: Myth-ecology and Technology - Artist talk with Shane Finan

Join Shane Finan for this fascinating talk touching on storytelling, history and philosophy drawing on the flooding of the Poulaphuca Valley in 1940 to create Ireland’s second hydro electric power station. The human residents of the valley were evicted prior to the flooding and given compensation that the state calculated as more than reasonable. Yet displacement causes more than monetary suffering and any uprooting of lives can have long-term emotional and social consequences. Finan explores the wider reaching consequences of the project, while outlining how he and his fellow artists, Alannah Robins and Niamh Fahy, created new work responding to Poulaphuca’s unique and unusual history.
