Rebel Resistors Radio Club

The Co. Wicklow chapter of Rebel Resistors Radio Club are building radios, writing manifestos and getting ready to re-shape the world.

RRRC invites 10-12yr old girls into a club that asks deep, profound questions in a playful & accessible way: where are we heading, where is power held & how will we share space together in an uncertain world?

Working with analogue technologies and with a DIY approach, RRRC considers how “old” technology might be the technologies of the future. The Rebels build antennas, construct radios and think about what messages they might like to send into the world. RRRC builds an archive of voices of girls from across the globe, stepping into their power and talking about their visions for their shared future.

Ticketing & Attendance: Participants must attend the workshop for the full week. While the event is free, a refundable deposit is required at booking and will be returned upon full attendance at the camp.

Suitability: This workshop is designed specifically to cater to 11 year old girls, however girls aged 10-12 year are welcome. The project is focused on girls, but for avoidance of doubt, RRRC is trans inclusive. This means that trans girls and non-binary young people are also welcome.

· Dates: Monday 14th - Friday 18th July 2025 inclusive

· Workshop hours:
Monday to Thursday 10am-3pm

·
Friday 18th will be a longer day from approximately 10am - 5pm where participants will have the opportunity to share their work with family members in the library in the afternoon.

The Artists

Artists Gemma Paintin & James Stenhouse work together under the moniker Action Hero. They make a wide range of work across a lot of different disciplines – performance, digital work, social practice, installation, work for public space and sound. Experimentation with form is a central part of Action Hero’s artistic process: how people meet in the live moment and how human-to-human exchange takes place within the frame of an artwork. The company has toured to 40 countries across 5 continents, from China to Australia to Brazil to Canada to Peru to Finland and almost everywhere in between. Their recent work The Talent won an Off-West End award; they have been shortlisted for the ANTI prize for Live Art and have published 2 books. Action Hero’s work is regularly taught in educational institutions worldwide, and the company’s digital archive is included in university libraries in the UK and the US. Rebel Resistors Radio Club continues the artists preoccupation with the local and the global, the intimate and the large scale, as well as themes around the voice, radio and broadcasting, and DIY approaches to technology
