Bray native Redmond O’Toole presents a program focusing on masterpieces for the guitar from the 20th century.
The concert will explore the legacies of the instrument’s greatest virtuosos and their most successful collaborations with composers. Redmond will perform Torroba and Monpou pieces that were dedicated to Andres Segovia, Poulenc’s only guitar piece, Sarabande, written for Ida Presti and Benjamin Britten’s Nocturnal, hailed as the finest guitar composition of the 20th Century, that was commissioned by Julian Bream.
In addition the program includes Domeniconi’s Koyunbaba, a modern masterpiece made famous by John Williams at the turn of the century.
Described by the Irish Times as ‘Ireland’s most distinctive guitarist’ Redmond has performed worldwide at important festivals and events.
In addition he toured extensively as guitarist for the Chieftains for many years and was a founder member of the Dublin Guitar Quartet. He holds a Doctorate in Performance from Trinity College / RIAM and is lecturer in guitar at The Royal Irish Academy of Music.
