Ronan Guilfoyle's 96 Miles (Ireland)
Miles Davis and his various bands created a huge repertoire of music that is regularly performed all over the world, and that forms a sizeable portion of the traditional jazz repertoire.
Written by Ronan Guilfoyle, one of Ireland’s leading bassists and composers, ’96 Miles’ is a large scale work for sextet, dedicated to Miles, that references the various stages of his career from the acoustic music of the quintets to the electric groove-based music of his later years.
Featuring the renowned New York flautist Jamie Baum, and a roster of Ireland’s finest performers – including saxophonist Michael Buckley, Leo Osio and Chris Guilfoyle - ’96 Miles’ is a dedication to Miles as we near what would have been his 96th birthday. ’96 Miles’ explores great grooves, virtuosity, and the combination of structure and spontaneity that runs like a thread through all of Miles’ music and beyond.
