1947. Holocaust survivor and accomplished architect László Tóth leaves Hungary for America, hoping his missing wife and niece will soon be able to follow. In Philadelphia, László’s cousin offers him a job designing furniture. When the pair accept a renovation job from the son of a wealthy industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren, it sparks a life-changing series of events that sees László embark on a years-long odyssey to build his masterpiece.

The acclaimed new film from director Brady Corbet (The Childhood of a Leader, Vox Lux) is a truly epic drama, vividly exploring the immigrant experience, art, capitalism and the ‘American Dream’. With impressive performances across the board, this is engrossing, bold and bracingly unique filmmaking.

‘It’s not just that they don’t make movies like this anymore… so much as no one bothers to tell these types of sprawling narratives with this level of storytelling, chops, nerve and verve.’
