“And then as if from out of nowhere, a voice came back from long ago,
‘These quiet places if you find them, are the spaces where you grow.’ ”
Colum Sands has been growing and weaving songs and stories around the world since he first set out on his musical travels from County Down, nearly fifty years ago.
Ten albums and countless performances later, much of his inspiration and humour continues to come from the quiet unexpected places and people that we can so often miss in our rush to arrive somewhere else.
“These Quiet Places” takes a thought provoking and humourous stroll through the highways and byways of past and present to bring to the world of 2021 some of that welcome medicine which one critic described as Colum’s ability to "view the world with balanced, non tribalistic humanity, breaking down all kinds of barriers and leaving behind an optimism and appreciation of the power of the human spirit over adversity.”
With an illustrated book of the same title in the pipeline, “These Quiet Places” makes its very first stage appearance - with the pictures painted in song and story - at the 2021 YARN Festival.

‘An unforgettable, wonderful performer. I've just seen him play to 2500 people in the Australian National Folk Festival's biggest venue and make everyone feel as if they were sitting in his lounge room. He's warm, witty, moving and funny… ’Steve Barnes, Director Fairbridge Folk Festival
