The Wicklow Artists Salon is back!
Previously hosted by Outpost Studios, the salon is being relaunched with the support of Wicklow County Arts Office, and will take place in person four times a year. This year's programme will be curated and facilitated by artists Philip St John, Joanna Kidney and Olivia Fitzsimons. Our first evening starts in the theatre in Mermaid Arts Centre on Tuesday 18th October at 7.30pm.
An opportunity for artists to meet their peers for an evening of discussion, the Salon will invite guest artists to explore important themes affecting cultural practitioners in Wicklow and beyond. Over the next 12 months, we will focus on ideas of Sustaining a Career: what do artists need, creatively, financially, emotionally and more?
For the first Salon, we look at the theme of Collaborations, and our guests are experts at that. Internationally acclaimed theatre-makers Feidlim Cannon and Gary Keegan AKA Brokentalkers – https://brokentalkers.ie/ – have collaborated with practitioners across many art-forms including music, dance, visual art and film. Writer Philip St John will chair a talk with Feidlim and Gary exploring such questions as, why collaborate, how do we choose potential collaborators, how can artists prepare themselves for the experience, and what are the benefits and drawbacks of collaboration?
As always, there will be time for all to contribute questions and opinions, along with an opportunity to mingle with fellow artists afterwards.
Tea and coffee will be provided – feel free to bring something for the table to accompany it!
