Crickets Sing With Their Legs
Almha Roche and Lucy Hill describe painting as 'a natural, necessary activity'. For both artists, painting is a way of reflecting on and expressing something of real life and the world around them. The formulation of explanations and justifications after the fact, for a body of work that communicates through it's own language, seems strange and unnecessary, as for a cricket attempting to explain its 'song' through another language. For this exhibition, each artist had made her own particular 'song', and presented them in unison to see what new 'sounds' they could make.
