Wind Cowl II, 2018
by Julie Merriman
Medium: Typewriter carbon film on paper
Dimensions: 120 x 140cm
Marking a surface, as a system of communication, has lost little of its relevance today; the means may be more varied but the essence of the act remains fundamentally unchanged. Working with communities and businesses Julie Merriman examine the history of mark making in the context of language: drawn, written and programmed. Using present-day and historical data, she investigate modes of inscription, replication and transmission.
