Mermaid Arts Centre is seeking a detail-oriented individual to join the company as Accounts Administrator. Reporting to the Artistic Director and General Manager, the Accounts Administrator is a key member of the Mermaid team responsible for ensuring smooth, timely and accurate financial operation and management.

The ideal candidate will have experience in bookkeeping and demonstrate a keen interest in accuracy and attention to detail. A prior knowledge of the arts sector and Arts Council reporting would be beneficial.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Collsoft Payroll or other accountancy/Payroll software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suit
  • Experience using Banking on line
  • Experience with dealing with revenue returns
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise tasks
  • 5+ years’ experience in bookkeeping
  • Personal accountability, high level of integrity and ability to observe strictest confidentiality


The Role

Reporting to the Artistic Director and General Manager, the Account Administrator is a part-time role (20 hours per week) but nevertheless a key position at Mermaid, with responsibility for ensuring that accurate financial records are adhered to.

As Accounts Administrator you will have responsibility for:

  • General accounts/data entry on a weekly basis on QuickBooks Accounts which will include recording all income and expenditure, payment of all creditors through banking on line (BOI)
  • Run payroll on a weekly basis, recording part-time hours, calculate holiday and bank holiday pay and make all revenue filings including VAT returns.
  • Preparation of monthly bank reconciliation
  • Assist with box office settlements including contra accounting
  • Work with the General Manager to provide accurate and timely financial reports to the Finance committee and Board of Directors
  • Assist with external audit requirements
  • Process staff expenses, credit card statements and petty cash
  • Input journal transactions, accruals and prepayments
  • Assist with the preparation of funding applications and yearly budgets


Contract: 2 years (with 6-month probationary period) fixed-term, part-time contract.

Salary: €31,000 to €34,000 (pro rata at 50% : €15,500 to €17,000 depending on experience

Working hours: 20 hours per week (inclusive of breaks)

Pension: There is no company pension at present, but the company will facilitate payments to selected pension plan. This policy is reviewed annually.

Holidays: 23 days (includes Good Friday and 24 December) plus public holidays.
