Mr. Sands Youth Theatre

Mr. Sands is Wicklow's newest & fastest growing youth theatre. Based in Bray, they meet every Wednesday, 6.30-9.00pm in St. Patrick's National School

Mermaid gave technical support with Lx and Av design as well as theatre time for the young people to develop the piece. The theatre was offered for free and workshops arranged with specific needs being addressed. The group had technical time in the theatre over three days and also presented two shows in Mermaid and one in Belfast.

Mr. Sands were part of the 2018 National Theatre Connections Festival and presented a new play by the award-winning playwright, Chris Bush. Set in and around a swimming pool, The Changing Room follows a group of teens full of excitement, impatience, secrets and uncertainty. Are we teenagers? Are we children? What are we? It’s about bodies in flux and perspectives shifting; knowing change is coming but not what that change will look like. A lyrical piece – brimming with powerful words, ensemble movement and song!
