The Outrun Cert: 15A
After 10 years of spiralling into addiction in London, Rona returns home to the far-flung Orkney Islands in Scotland, hoping to maintain her recovery. Attempting to reconcile her complex family history as well as her destructive past behaviours, she takes a job with a wildlife conservation charity - allowing her to connect with the nature of her childhood home.
Nora Fingscheidt (System Crasher) presents a vivid adaptation of Amy Liptrot’s personal memoir of addiction, powered by an extraordinary central performance from Saoirse Ronan. She beautifully portrays Rona’s fragility and grit as she journeys from destruction to serenity.
With a pounding soundtrack, a kinetic visual style and intricate narrative structure, this extraordinarily moving film is redemptive, cathartic and utterly riveting.
