Veronica

Followed by short Q&A with local fisherman post show for audience to engage and learn about local fishing industry.

‘VERONICA’ a new play, written & directed by Tina Noonan. A cast of three - a father, son and grandfather. Set on a 10 metre commercial fishing boat over 10 hours off the coast of a fictional Irish town. This 80-minute drama explores an industry under increasing economic, regulatory and cultural pressure. By placing three generations of one family in a confined boat at sea ‘Veronica’ turns a national issue into an intimate human drama as old grudges and long-held secrets bubble to the surface. However, it’s wider purpose is to insure our language, sea heritage, together with the livelihoods of Ireland’s fishing communities are not quietly lost.

Each performance will be followed by a short Q & A session with local fishermen, an opportunity for the audience to engage directly with those working in the industry locally.

‘VERONICA’ evolved from 18 months of Noonan’s independent research travelling to coastal harbours from her home in Wicklow Town to Innishturk, Co. Mayo, together with accompanying fishing crews aboard inshore vessels out of Greystones, Kilmore Quay, Dunmore East, Kerry Head, Inishturk and Wicklow harbour.
