King Frankie

During the Celtic Tiger years, Frankie was a successful, wealthy and ostentatious businessman. After losing almost everything in the economic collapse, he now lives a quiet life operating a small taxi firm and has had to move back into his parents’ home. When Frankie’s father passes away, old friends and acquaintances gather for the funeral. Seeing those familiar faces forces Frankie to finally reckon with the lingering trauma of the day everything fell apart.

Dermot Malone’s debut feature is a probing yet warm character study split between two strikingly different moments in its protagonist’s life. Love/Hate star Peter Coonan excels as the troubled yet sympathetic Frankie, alongside a talented supporting cast that includes Owen Roe, Olivia Caffrey and Ruairi O’Connor.

‘A nervy, tension-fuelled melodrama with big themes and a bigger heart… [Coonan is] terrific here’
