Pink Breath and the Sung Essays in Development

Aoife McAtamney

In January 2018, no sooner had we flung open our doors to a new year than we were welcoming in our first artist in residence to develop new work right here in Mermaid. Aoife McAtamney, our Dance Artist in Residence (alongside artist Karen Gleeson) spent a week here in Mermaid collaborating with Shane Holly, Aoife Sprat and Steven Quinn to develop Pink Breath and the Sung Essays. Using the text of Audre Lorde's 1977 speech 'The Transformation of Silence into Language and Action' as a guide for the performance, an intimate evening of original music and movement took place on Thursday, January 11th, marking the first showing of Pink Breath and the Sung Essays.
