Honey & Lemon

Mermaid’s New Dance Artists in Residence

Mermaid Arts Centre is delighted to welcome and support Honey & Lemon as our Dance Artist in Residence. Honey & Lemon are multidisciplinary entertainers who experiment with dance, voice and film to blur the boundaries of contemporary dance. Founded as a creative partnership in 2020 by artists Millie Daniel-Dempsey and Amy Robyn Lyster, Honey & Lemon is built on a decade of friendship and started as a desire to centre themselves and other women artists in the conversation. Millie & Amy started working together while training professionally in dance in the UK and have each been developing their own practice in Ireland, the UK and Europe as independent performers, makers and facilitators since then. These wide-ranging experiences have a strong influence on their work today, bringing together influences from collaborations and independent projects across the creative spectrum.

During their residency with Mermaid Arts Centre, they will develop a series of community-focused movement workshops as well as collaborating on a new screendance project with participants for 2025.

A note from Honey & Lemon

“We are delighted to be joining Mermaid Arts Centre this year as Artist in Residence with thanks to The Arts Council’s Dance Artist Residency Scheme. While we’re here, we’ll be making sure there are plenty of opportunities for local people to find joy through moving their body and reignite their love for dance. As a woman-led company, we’d particularly love to get to know the women of Bray and find ways to support them in being more confidently creative. We’ll be facilitating movement classes, creative workshops and an open call to collaborate with us on an exciting screendance project - look out for announcements coming soon! As well as getting out and about, we’ll also be taking much needed time for research and rehearsal in the studio following a sell-out run of DOUBLE ACT earlier this year at Project Arts Centre. If you see us in the building, say Hi! We can’t wait to share a boogie with you soon. ”

Keep an eye on our socials over the coming months where we will be announcing an Open Call for workshop and screendance participants.
