Youth Film Project
Mermaid Arts centre, with the kind support of Wicklow Arts Office, are very much looking forward to running a fun, creative, introductory filmmaking workshop in St. Mary’s College, Arklow in October.
The workshops include scriptwriting, directing, art department, camera operation and post-production. Each group plans, makes and edits their own short films which are screened at the end of the week.
Our aim is to engage young people in filmmaking and give them hands on experience in creating and making their own short films. We hope to inspire and encourage the students to develop their creative potential.
The faciliators of these workshops are Shane Conaty, Brian Matthews Murphy & Robert Harrington.
Shane Conaty
Shane Conaty has a master's in filmmaking and has directed numerous shorts, music videos and 2 feature films. He has taught drama in Bull Alley in the Liberties and has worked as a teacher/facilitator with KWETB and An Cosan. Shane currently works as production director for Big Red Box media in Delgany.
Brian Matthews Murphy
Brian is an actor and film maker from Wicklow. He has acted in features and TV shows such as The Lost City of Z, Spa Weekend, Last Journey of The Vikings and has also written, produced and directed shorts which have been selected for numerous festivals around the world and in Ireland.
In 2019 he received a JCI young person of the year award in the category of Arts and Culture.
He also started and runs North Wicklow Filmmakers (known as No WiFi), a local community group.
Robert Harrington
Robert is a member of The Actors Studio at Bow St. He studied screen acting at The Factory and has enjoyed working in both theatre and film over the past fifteen years, including national and international tours. They include, The Shadow of a Gunman (The New Theatre), PinterX4 (Pearse Centre), In Arabia We’d All Be Kings (Beckett Theatre), Mary Stuart (Freemason Hall) and La Locandiera (Edinburgh Fringe festival). Some of his feature film work includes Vaudevillians, The Comeback, The Guarantee, A Date for Mad Mary and The Enchanted Island. He has also written and directed a number of short films.
