Born That Way

This documentary is screening as part of Mermaid's Documentary Week

In 1979 American Patrick Lydon and his wife Gladys established the inclusive Camphill Movement at Callan Co. Kilkenny, where they shared life in a community with people of diverse needs, abilities, and backgrounds. Director Éamon Little became friends with Patrick when his own brother went to live at Camphill Callan.

Following a diagnosis of motor neuron disease, Patrick granted the director exclusive access to his home and family. Born That Way chronicles Patrick’s final year as he battles the disease and reflects back on his life and the community he loved so much. The documentary celebrates the life a genuine hero, whose inspirational story shows what it means to truly care for and include others.
