Colours of Time
Four distant cousins, all descendants of a woman called Adèle Meunier, are brought together in Normandy by the unexpected inheritance of their ancestor’s house. They must clean out the property, which has been abandoned since 1944. As they sift through items including old photos and letters, they imagine Adèle’s life as she moves to a vibrant Paris of 1895. The city is on the brink of a cultural and creative revolution, where Impressionism alongside photography and technological developments are propelling French society towards modernity.
Director Klapisch (Rise) cleverly transports the cousins back and forth between 1895 and 2025 as they trace Adele’s journey and start to better understand their own connections to the past. The result is delightful and fantastical.
