Mr Sands Youth Theatre presents

A Wrinkle in Time and He Who Gets Slapped

Mr Sands Youth Theatre is Bray’s premiere space to Make Theatre, Make Friends, and Make Memories. This April, for the first time since 2020, we’re bringing not one, but two shows to the stage…

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle (1962), adapted by Morgan Gould

Meg Murry’s father, a scientist, vanished a long time ago. One stormy night, her world turns upside down when a strange woman literally blows into the house! The woman, Ms. Whatsit, reveals that not only is Meg’s father alive, but he needs rescuing! Along with Meg’s brother Charles Wallace and her friend Calvin, they go on a space-bending, planet-hopping adventure!

Produced by special arrangement with Crosswicks Ltd. and Stage Partners.

He Who Gets Slapped by Leonid Andreev (1915)

Papa Briquet’s Circus has some of the best acts in Paris; Zinida, the lion tamer; Jackson, the Sun Clown; and Consuelo and Bezano with their Horseback Tango!

One day, as the troupe rehearses, a strange, well-dressed gentleman wanders in and asks to join their ranks as a clown. He refuses to reveal his name, asking only to be referred to as He Who Gets Slapped

What follows is a comedic drama about un-requited love, un-bearable loneliness, and un-speakable tragedy… all behind the scenes of a big top circus!

Mr Sands Youth Theatre

Mr Sands Youth Theatre is Bray, County Wicklow's local Youth Theatre. It was founded in 2017 by drama teacher Emer Casey and a group of talented young people who wanted to create a space of their own to Make Theatre, Make Friends and Make Memories. The name 'Mr Sands' (based on a bit of secret code used by backstage crews in theatres) was picked by those founding members. From then until now, our members' input and ideas are at the heart of everything we do. This is a space for anyone aged 12-17 to ignite their self confidence, freely express themselves, and discover the joys of making great theatre and art with their peers! Our members have explored many different artistic mediums and become a talented group of budding artists. We've created our own plays, both for the stage and promenade, and we've also made audio dramas and short films! Plus, we regularly take part in youth theatre festivals and exchanges in Ireland and all across Europe! Mr Sands is a proud affiliate of Youth Theatre Ireland, and is supported by the KWETB, Wicklow Arts Office, and the Arts Council.

Please note this show is presented by a local arts performing group and ticket prices are at their discretion.
