Short Vines - Experimental Writing Workshop
‘Collaboration is a meeting of minds that don’t match. Circulation disturbs and creates what’s continuous, anchoring you enough in the scene to pull in other things as you go’
Lauren Berlant and Kathleen Stewart, The Hundreds
Join Astrid Newman (IRL) and Francesca Hawker (UK/BE) for this experimental writing workshop, open to anyone who is curious about experimenting with text
Initially developed through an ongoing collaborative exchange, Short Vines proposes language as a medium that can traverse contexts. Taking inspiration from the series of vignettes in The Hundreds (Duke University Press, 2019), Astrid and Fran have compiled texts collaboratively but from afar by sending written snapshots back and forth from Ireland to Belgium, each grasping towards a frame for a common experience from different viewpoints.
Through a series of exercises, prompts and activities, participants will be invited to use pre-existing phrases as building blocks with which to build new narratives.
This workshop follows Astrid and Fran's mini residency at Mermaid Art Centre and a previous residency at The Green Corridor in Brussels during March 2026..
