Square One Theatre Group Presents
The Plough and the Stars
Square One presents The Plough and the Stars by Sean O’Casey. It is described as a comic tragedy in four acts and is dedicated “To the gay laugh of my mother at the gate of the grave.” The first two acts are set during November of 1915, acts three and four during Easter Week 1916.
The Plough and the Stars is one of playwright Sean O’Casey’s most renowned and poignant works. The play explores the lives of tenement dwellers in Dublin against the backdrop of the political turmoil. It’s particular focus on the lives of women during this time reflects O’Casey’s own mother’s experiences. All of his characters show the rich humour and resilience and the language of the people O’Casey knew. It is the final play in Sean O’Casey’s Dublin trilogy.
