The Quiet Men

Who links James Connolly, John Wayne, James Bond and the Oscars?

The Quiet Men is a whistle-stop tour through the life stories of two remarkable Dublin brothers, Barry FitzGerald and Arthur Shields who between them fought in the GPO in Easter Week and won an Oscar. Known and beloved by movie audiences for their roles in John Ford’s The Quiet Man - these two stalwarts of the Abbey Theatre Company carved out careers in Hollywood. However, little is known about their private lives. The Quiet Men delves into this hidden history. Written and performed by their great grandnephew Morgan C Jones and directed by Conall Morrison this show sheds new light on two of Ireland’s most talented actors.

‘Jones has created a fine tribute to his great, grand uncles and also an engaging hour of theatrical entertainment as he brings these two acclaimed actors back into clear view. They paved the way for many Irish actors in Hollywood who have followed. Jones has done them a great service with this theatrical tribute.’
