A Fortunate Life
Catherine Brophy was born, reared and educated in Dublin. She has been a teacher, an audiologist. Lecturer, work-shop facilitator and she has travelled the world. Now she is a full-time writer and story-teller.
She leads a blameless life in Ireland but travels whenever she can. She’s been rescued by a circus troupe in Serbia, had breakfast with a Zambian chief, ate camel stew in the Sahara, and was kicked by a horse on the Mexican plain. Yeah…she has a couple of stories to tell.
This show is a number of linked stories of Catherine's family and life in an Ireland that has changed hugely during her lifetime. It is also a social history of Ireland in past times. The stories are all entertaining and might even make you laugh out loud.
Catherine’s stories are often humorous. She tells a wide variety of stories: Fairy stories, ghost stories, myth and legend, folk stories, travel and personal stories. The choice depends on the audience.
She has told stories, and facilitated workshops, in schools and libraries, at festivals, in the Abbey Theatre and at story venues in Germany, Poland, Netherlands, U.S.A., Denmark, Scotland and Morocco. She has recently performed her one woman show A Fortunate Life in the Glens Arts Centre, Manorhamilton.
