Fridayfest - Weekly Drawing Drop-In
Free weekly drawing / writing / social gathering to create together. This is a fun, relaxed session, where everybody is welcome. It is not a class, but an opportunity to draw, chat or even write in a friendly environment.
TRANSFORM 2022/23
Our two new TRANSFORM associate artists for 2022/23 are Elida Maiques and Chris Moran. They join two of our associate artists from 2021 which are Shiva R Joyce and Emmet Kirwan.
Dance Theatre Artist Rachel Brennan Awarded Bursary
We are delighted to announce that Waterford-based dance theatre artists Rachel Brennan has been awarded the SEVN bursary 2022.
Ursula Quill and Colm Keegan
We’re delighted to welcome Ursula Quill and Colm Keegan who have recently joined Mermaid's board. Their appointment follows an open call process that attracted a large number of impressive applications.
WASTE-BASKET AESTHETICS by James Merrigan
A text by Wicklow native James Merrigan has been commissioned which reflects on the installed work of Shouty Snow Echo, Laura Kelly's exhibition running from March 21st - April 30th 2022. This is available to read here and also a printed copy of this is available as a free gallery handout.
Super Paua
Mermaid Arts Centre is delighted to welcome Super Paua as Storyteller in Residence for 2022. Super Paua is an artist-led collective that makes work primarily for young people in a variety of languages, places, and forms.
Janet Moran
Mermaid Arts Centre welcomes theatremaker Janet Moran as Theatre Artist in Residence for 2021/22 in partnership with Wicklow County Council, and supported by The Arts Council.
Story Commission
Mermaid Arts Centre is delighted to be working with storytellers Masako Carey, Máirín Mhic Lochlainn, Seosamh Ó Maolalaí, Colin Urwin & Órla McGovern on a collaborative story commission project.
YARN Storyteller in Residence
As part of this year's YARN Storytelling Festival, artist Paul Timoney is in residence in St. Kieran's School for Children from the Traveller Community in Bray.
Gap Day Artists 2021
We are delighted to introduce you to this year's Gap Day artists! All 52 of these freelance theatre-makers have been selected to take part in Gap Day, an initiative by Lian Bell in collaboration with Mermaid Arts Centre.
Youth Film Project
Mermaid Arts centre, with the kind support of Wicklow Arts Office, are very much looking forward to running a fun, creative, introductory filmmaking workshop in St. Mary’s College, Arklow in October.
